Quarantine Life- If you are home, you win!

In these unprecedented times, while most of us are staying away from home and family, the fear of uncertainty has been rising every day. We need to overcome hardship and find ways to keep us sane. Regardless of how many people you live with or how many times you have been able to see your loved ones, the quarantine lifestyle that’s necessary to keep the novel corona virus at bay is far from easy.

Yes, we all have been receiving tons of messages and news circulating among the social media- From the number of positive cases to lock-downs to immunity boosters to making masks with available materials. The hoarding of toilet papers, sanitizers, and disinfectant wipes suddenly started to fade with time and every opinion/statistic got communicated effortlessly in this online modern world.

You’ve have probably spent the majority of the last few months finding ways to get by; Maybe you have whipped up new recipes, redecorated/ organized your home, hosted virtual happy hours, played plenty of games with family virtually, watched enough movies and series. Engaged kids in virtual classes, discovered simpler ways to connect in group virtual calls.  I have known people who have come up with their creative edge more than always to keep in touch with their loved ones and celebrating their special occasions.

We all have passed these different stages of Quarantine and tried our best to overcome fear, anxiety, ways to keep us occupied. I am sure, we did it all. During all these different phases mental health plays a major role, don’t think of introversion as something that needs to be cured, spend your free time the way you like; you cannot be lonely if you like the person you are alone with.

We also happen to uncover our imaginative side too in making our best from the quarantine times. The ingredients were simple – planning, patience, labor, little care, and lots of love for the family.

  1. This QUARANTINE FUSION GRILL idea came from my daughter who wanted to make our anniversary special. She came up to me asking if I could cook restaurant food and she would setup the dining and yes, we did it in all quarantine style.

We cosseted some ambiance into our simple decor. Made the most of the space available in our living room, used the caution tape from one of the previous spy themed birthday party with a little bit of bling and we were all set!
A table RESERVED for The Shroff’s 🙂
The menu was set to match the restaurant ‘Quarantine Fusion Grill”
My cricut arrived just in time for me to print these anniversary T shirts.
We had a sanitizing station too.
That veggie sizzler was definitely drool-worthy.
Finally, we were all set to dig in:)

Thanks to our little girl for making this memorable, she made us play games. I wish this day lasted long.

2. OBSTACLE COURSE- Keeping kids occupied with new ideas is often very challenging. Created this simple obstacle course with easy tasks and marking directions with painter’s tape that is easily removable on any surface. This kept her engaged for hours and well entertained, all at the comfort of your home. Do give it a try

3. READING CORNER- To encourage reading as much while staying home, these reading corners did a splendid job. These cozy little spaces were altered every few weeks and yes, we did read a lot 😊 All of these were made with the available supplies at home and we have reused in every possible way.

Spring themed reading corner, have used two white cloths/dothi’s (a garment used by Indian men, common in Indian household) attached them to a ring and hung it to a corner. Cut out flowers from colored card stock and a string light added the flash to this corner.
With a little bit of moving furniture we came up with this second round of the reading spaces. The colored frames on the wall were cut out from cardboard boxes and painted. This painting activity kept her busy too.
‘Reading gives us someplace to go, when we have to stay where we are’

This was another setup while we are reusing at our utmost capacity and we were done!

4. MINIATURE KITCHEN- Miniature art for me, has been a ticket for experience and forever love. This quarantine got me experimenting all the pending projects that was on my mind for long. With the available supplies and resources and a few days in hand; I could finally say, this was mine and loved every bit of it. My husband was great at capturing pictures just like the way I wanted, and my daughter added to this by her miniature culinary skills-  A perfect teamwork was on its way!

5. FATHER’S DAY TEA PARTY-  I knew father’s day was coming up and wanted to make it special for my girl and her dad and had no clue what to do. While sipping chai in the patio, struck an idea for a tea party and from there, my girl suggested to have a garden tea party and tadaa we set it up with a miniature garden too. Below are few pics from our tiny patio:

Love this picture with my mom in it 🙂

6. LOVE FOR BENGALURU- Bengaluru is a city, where I can bury my feelings alive. So much to this city where I grew up and can bring much joy just reminiscing the good old times. My love for Bangalore/Bengaluru is everlasting and this small corner of our living room speaks for itself.  Blended the old and new Bangalore, these miniatures sure carry a lot of hidden emotions that is dear to me. Do scroll down for my masterpiece 😉

BENGALURU is not just a city, it’s truly an EMOTION!

7. GAME NIGHT- Planning a game night was simple yet a fun idea. We got to spend quality time with family playing our favorite games. It looked like; we had rediscovered our childhood. Siri had come up with two games with instructions and that sure was so enjoyable. We had a magic show too at half time. Perfect one! Hope you get some ideas to plan your next game night!

‘Sometimes you find yourself in middle of chaos, and sometimes in the middle of chaos, you find yourself.’

Do what you can with what you have has been my mantra this quarantine and hope you too get your creative hats ON to motivate you to stay home. We sure together can curb COVID-19 by staying home and help yourself with anything that can make us stay home.

Hope you enjoyed reading through this blog-post.

  1. Excellent blog!! What a great way to spread positivity to everyone out there who is trying to learn ways to adapt to this global pandemic. Kids are the most vulnerable during such times as they don’t fully understand why the world is shut down but as Parents we need to let them know the world is still beautiful, things will get better, we are very hopeful of the new normal and that very soon we will all get together and celebrate life. Thank you for filling this blog with colors, hope, love and creativity!!
